About

ProteinData.com was created to provide a free platform for companies to disclose information about their business activities.

Our first survey is about protein diversification, which refers to supplementing dairy, eggs, meat, poultry and seafood created in agricultural settings with protein alternatives created from plants, fungi, and algae, or by food technology that enables animal protein to be produced from live cells or fermentation, without needing to breed, raise, transport or slaughter animals.

It is hard to underestimate the importance of the protein sector with respect to creating a more sustainable food system.

According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, animal agriculture is responsible for 14.5% of global emissions, roughly matching the emissions from the transportation sector. Given this, more and better information is necessary to help assess the varying impacts that different types of protein production have on climate, water, land, biodiversity, public health and more, as well as the associated business risks. While there is a clear trend towards more sustainability reporting by food companies, there is a lack of objective and uniform data sources.

ProteinData.com has three goals:

  1. Provide universal protein sector key performance indicators applicable to both upstream and downstream protein supply chains.

  2. Provide a free platform for companies to report their protein sector activities and data.

  3. Provide a central source of free information about protein sector performance.
